Dance and Choreographic Practices (Master’s program only)

Launched in September 2021, the Master’s programme Dance and Choreographic Practices is the product of a unique collaboration and three-way partnership between the choreographic centre Charleroi danse and two art schools: ENSAV La Cambre and INSAS.

Mindful of today’s artistic challenges and our contemporary reality, this Master’s programme offers choreographers, the creators of tomorrow, an international and multicultural graduate-level (2nd cycle) training programme which combines and develops specific skills, learning and research related to dance, its writing and its production.

Choreographic creation takes centre stage, but is studied in interaction with other disciplines, and from a wide range of artistic and aesthetic approaches. The teaching is based on experimentation and collaboration. The course examines the artist’s place in society and stimulates reflection on the history of the discipline and new modes of creation.

The Master’s programme is supervised by choreographers and renowned teachers: Ayelen Parolin, Serge Aimé Coulibaly, Louise Vanneste, Samuel Lefeuvre, Florencia Demestri and Julien Carlier. They are joined by many artists who give workshops on bodywork, technical creation, theoretical reflection and choreographic practice, including Fatou Traoré, Loic Touzé, Marielle Morales, Brice Cannavo, Antia Diaz, Jonathan Burrows, Lia Rodrigues, Nedjma Hadj, Laurence Halloy and Sofie Durnez, among others.

The training takes place over two years, mainly at the sites of the three partners: INSAS, ENSAV La Cambre and Charleroi danse (La Raffinerie, Brussels). It is aimed at students who hold a ‘Licence’ or Bachelor’s degree and/or personal skills acquired through professional experience in the performing arts (VAE: Validation of acquired experience) or research relating to the body and movement.

ULB and the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels are partners of the programme.
