Accessories (Master’s program only)
La Cambre’s Master’s in Accessories is an advanced artistic program that views accessories as a creative realm at the intersection of fashion, design, craftsmanship, and art. The program explores leather goods, contemporary jewelry, headwear, footwear, and, more broadly, wearable objects, examining their uses, forms, materials, and production methods.
The Master’s program emphasizes an approach grounded in research, experimentation, and project development. It encourages students to view accessories not merely as complements to clothing, but as objects in their own right, embodying a function, a purpose, an imagination, and an identity. Projects are developed through observation, documentary and visual research, experimentation with forms and materials, testing, and prototyping.
Throughout this process, each student is guided in developing a personal style and a coherent creative vision. Technical skills are developed to serve the project and its intentions, in dialogue with drawing, graphic design, photography, 3D modeling, and other creative fields. This approach allows students to integrate technical mastery, formal research, and critical reflection, while opening the project to contemporary issues related to uses, materials, production methods, and transformations within the sector.
Starting in the second four-month term of the first year, each personal project gradually takes shape through the second year, culminating in the creation of a collection of accessories. The process is structured around a statement of intent that articulates the project’s challenges and directions, and culminates in the writing of a collection essay that accompanies and contextualizes the graduation collection. This collection represents the culmination of a process of research, experimentation, and development, bringing together concepts, prototypes, materials, techniques, and finished pieces. The collection is conceived as a coherent whole, revealing a distinct artistic stance and identity.
The Master’s program thus combines artistic rigor, experimentation, technical mastery, and critical reflection, while exposing students’ projects to contemporary professional practices. It trains designers capable of developing a personal approach and of conceiving of accessories as a true field of creation, research, and innovation.
