Henry van de Velde - Catalogue
An important milestone for the world of design | The Klassik Stiftung Weimar publishes an online catalogue raisonné of Henry van de Velde's furniture designs
After more than twenty years of research, 1,657 designs created between 1891 and 1941 by the Belgian designer are now available to the public via a free digital catalog.
This catalog lists all known works in metal, textiles, ceramics, wood, etc. created by Henry van de Velde throughout his career. Each entry documents the date of design, dimensions, technique used, materials, production, clientele, provenance, and preserved examples.
The online edition includes, for the first time, a presentation of 377 models of chairs, leisure furniture, and wicker furniture. The initiative builds on the previous publication of three volumes devoted to van de Velde's works, published between 2009 and 2016. The catalog entries published in book form include 825 metal works, 196 textiles, and 256 ceramics, accompanied by more than 2,700 photos. The online edition is designed as a dynamic platform that greatly simplifies research on Henry van de Velde and can be enriched with new content as needed. By 2027, some 700 entries on tables, storage furniture, and small furniture, as well as additional sources, are planned.
The project was carried out with the support of several international partners: the Henry van de Velde Fund ASBL (Brussels), the Archives and Museums of Literature and the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR) in Brussels, the Ghent University Library, and the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich.
